Many other popular locations are nearby, the Quantock Hills, Mendips, Brendon Hills and Exmoor. The village of Nether Stowey lies at the foot of the Quantock Hills, an area first designated in the UK in 1956 as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The village of Nether Stowey offers 3 pubs, (2 serving food), bistro, butcher, post office, two general stores, small village garage, library and medical centre. The Quantocks are an ideal holiday destination for anyone looking to explore this beautiful diverse rural setting with walking and cycling at your door. Nether Stowey is 4 miles from the coast and many attractions within easy reach.

Bakers Cottage is ideally situated for exploring this beautiful area and provides an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the countryside with walks on the rolling hills and moors. The coast is within easy reach - with the nearest beach at Kilve (5 miles) where you can hunt for fossils. Sandy beaches can be found at Burnham on Sea and Minehead.
Visitors who love breathtaking scenery, moorlands, woods and rolling hills will take delight in this beautiful area of Somerset, with walkers and hikers being spoiled for choice with an abundance of footpaths and cycling routes in the hills. The hills are a wonderful place to spot all kinds of wild animals and birds, with wild ponies and red deer on the open moorland. Exmoor National Park is a little further away.
The poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge lived in Nether Stowey from 1779 to 1799 and his former house (NT) is open to the public. The Coleridge Way is 36 mile long 2 – 3 day walk popular with visitors. The walk begins from Nether Stowey and continues across the Brendon Hills, Exmoor and finishing in Porlock.
Another enjoyable activity and day out is on the West Somerset Steam Railway. The train journey starts from Bishops Lydeard and travels along a scenic route through Washford, and by the coast from Blue Anchor ending at Minehead.
